Metastatic tuberculous abscess caused by Mycobacterium bovis presenting as subcutaneous nodules in a woman with rheumatoid arthritis

A metastatic tuberculous abscess is a rare condition that should be considered in the differential diagnoses of subcutaneous nodules immunosuppressed patients. 71-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis developed disseminated tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium bovis. After taking vertebral biopsy, appeared on extremities. Initial histopathological and microbiological studies performed skin biopsy did not identify mycobacterium. An aspirate obtained from cold was cultured studied positive polymerase chain reaction; cultures grew M. bovis treatment for initiated. Two months later, fevers recurred, new appeared. repeated failed agent, yet it again material an aspirated abscess. Diagnostic tests exhausted order organism successfully.
